Jimmy Giuffre, a clarinettist, was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1921. Jimmy played both saxophone and clarinet from a early age, and gained professional experience in the 40's playing with US Army bands. Later, he went on to work with a host of big bands, including those led by Jimmy Dorsey, Buddy Rich and Woody Herman. Continuing to play live and on numerous recordings throughout the 50's, 60's and 70's, Jimmy also collaborated with many jazz musicians. In 1990, concluding a long musical journey, Giuffre premiered a work entitled "Timeless" at the South Bank Jazz Festival in England.
