Keane

Keane are a post-Coldplay British rock band who found their identity when their guitarist left. The band members grew up together in Sussex, the band originally playing covers of Oasis and U2 songs, until singer Tom Chaplin ditched his studies in Edinburgh and returned to the fold. Wolf At The Door slipped out almost unnoticed in 2001, with guitarist Dominic Scott departing soon after. Instead of finding a replacement, they realised that a piano could fill the void just as well. Hopes And Fears (2004) shows exactly how. Awash with soaring melodies and choirboy falsettos it has drawn comparison with Coldplay, Travis and Radiohead, though the absence of guitars and the band's impressive knack for creating a cinematic sound brimming with gut-wrenching melodies that relay stories of heartbreak and romance are strong enough for them to cement their own identity.
2006's follow-up album Under The Iron Sea was a darker offering altogether, reflecting the band's difficulties off-stage. Fractured friendships and stints in rehab nearly broke them, but they re-emerged stronger than ever in 2008 with storming album Perfect Symmetry making the UK public fall in love with them all over again.
