The funk band Mandrill was formed in 1968 in Brooklyn, NY by brothers Ric (sax, vocals), Lou (trumpet, vocals) and Carlos Wilson (trombone, vocals), who began rehearsing their act in their mother’s beauty salon. Signing to Polydor in 1970 they soon released their self-titled LP fusing Latin, African and jazz traditions with the period’s psychedelia sound. With a string of successful albums throughout the 70’s, Mandrill’s biggest hit was the 1973 LP “Composite Truth”, featuring the single “Fencewalk”. In 1982 they recorded “Montage” prior to disbanding.
