Although formed by his brother David, MOR band Dire Straits has always been connected to Mark Knopfler. With his clean Stratocaster guitar sound he heavily influenced 80's pop and started working as a solo artists since 1983 as well. His bias for rock music had to sidestep for quieter, more folk orientated sounds on soundtracks as "Last Exit to Brooklyn" or "Shot at Glory". For his collaborations with Chet Atkins on the 1990 album "Neck & Neck", Knopfler earned two Grammies. "The Ragpicker's Dream" from '02 is his most sophisticated record so far.
