Psychedelic rockers Quicksilver Messenger Service formed in San Francisco in 1965. The band originally comprised singer/songwriter Dino Valenti, John Cipollina and Gary Duncan on guitars, David Freiberg on bass and Greg Elmore on drums. Valenti made an early exit from the group due to a spell in prison on a drugs charge. The band released their debut self-titled album in 1968. Duncan returned to the group in 1970 to record "Just for Love" and "What About Me". The band then disintegrated before rejoining in 1975. In 1986, Duncan and Freiberg teamed up for another album under the QMS name.
