Yaz
Yaz was the American name of English band Yazoo, the band of former Depeche Mode mastermind Vince Clarke plus singer Alison Moyet. Due to legal reasons the band was not allowed to use its original name in the US. Yaz was an interesting mix of Moyet's jazz-tinged vocals and Vince Clarke's digital disco. Their first album "Upstairs At Eric's" was a success due to its opening track, the European #1 single "Don't Go". The minimalist ballad "Winter Kills" from 1981 sounded a lot like the stuff that came from Kompakt Records 20 years later. Other Yaz hits were "Situation" and "Nobody's Diary".
