Third up in the Rock Star Guide To The Galaxy series is a tour of LaLaLand - and your hosts are the new darlings of the California rock scene Uh Huh Her. One half of the duo might be familiar as Alice from The L Word - in real life she’s Leisha Hailey and does some singing in Uh Huh Her along with a spot of bass and synth. Her partner in pop is Camila Grey, lead vocalist and multi-instumentalist for the band. In this film the pair scooter us round the City of Angels, dropping in on pop svengali Linda Perry in the process and running into Ron Jeremy late at night. And you don’t get more rock ‘n’ roll than that…
If ever there was someone who wasn’t one of the boys, it’s Katy Perry. No stranger to controversy, the double-pastor’s daughter wants us to believe she’s 100% female, camping it up like an innocent Barbie with her coy winks to camera. Her controversy-baiting anthems “UR So Gay” and “I Kissed A Girl” have left a trail of hand-wringing and spluttering in their wake, but premise and politics aside - we know, it’s a big ask - both of them registered high on the pop richter scale, the latter occupying the UK No.1 spot ad infinitum. So will Perry be a two-hit wonder, or does the girl have legs, as celebrity fans like Madonna seem to think so?
The swanky Soho Revue Bar, with its chandelier and velvet walls, is one of RealMusic Blog’s very favourite London venues, so we thought all our Christmases had come at once when we were invited along to hear the chiselled grooves of Ben Onono emanate from its classy stage. To be fair, we’ve been suffering from SAD for most of the summer, so our seasonal confusion probably has more than one source…
Not only is autumn the time when the TV schedules suddenly take a turn for the better, it’s also the time when artists come out of their summer hibernation, scrape the mud from the festival wellies and start releasing records. So take heart then that we’ve now not only got Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives back on our screens, James Morrison is also releasing a new single and album. Praise be…
