Do not adjust your screens: the above image is in 3D so if you’ve already got your Keane 3D glasses, put them on now! Forward-thinking trio Keane are cutting their own slice of music history on Thursday with the world’s first live webcast in 3D from Abbey Road Studios, London. The band are recognised for championing ground-breaking ideas, being the first artists to release a single on a new format - the USB stick - in 2006, leading the way for other artists to follow. Now they’re urging us to don 3D specs and look like berks…

Keane’s creative involvement from album artwork design to their award-winning website has been widely acclaimed with the release of their third No.1 album Perfect Symmetry. During the making of the album and for the last year the band have effectively used the website as a broadcast outlet. Features have included one-on-one interviews conducted by Tom with Matt Lucas and Nicole Scherzinger, among others; a first-of-its-kind interactive video interview with James Corden just before Christmas; and live blogging and twittering by band members at gigs around the world.

The band will record the live session at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios, the home of The Beatles historic first-ever satellite broadcast and will feature live mixed graphics from world-renowned digital artists D-Fuse. Band members Tom, Richard and Tim told us: “We believe that the tradition of rock’n'roll is to always innovate, to bring new ideas and concepts into music. We are therefore incredibly excited about the prospect of being the first band to beam our music live in 3D over the internet. We will be broadcasting from Abbey Road, scene of the first live satellite broadcast - The Beatles All You Need Is Love - and we hope that this will become a similarly powerful new way for music to connect people all over the world.”

3D glasses will be available from keanemusic.com and all retailers with the 7-inch of the current single Better Than This. The audio from the gig will also be simultaneously broadcast live on-air on newly launched national station and RealMusic partner Absolute Radio.
