Sunshine, spilt beer and an electric energy hit the pavements of North London over the weekend, as the Camden Crawl swept up everyone in its path in a magical musical tour. The annual city festival served up 150 acts in 40 venues over two thrilling days that saw Madness touring on their very own bus, love swilling around the Camden streets and the weather gods rewarding our enthusiasm with a splash of summer in the city. Armed with our Crawl passes, RealMusic Blog roamed the sonorant streets and crashed as many gigs as we could in search of musical resurrection…
He’s a true Internet-made artist and now even Elton John’s given him his seal of approval, allowing him to sample Tiny Dancer on his new single of the same name. Ironik - or DJ Ironik when he’s behind the decks - is a one-man hip-hop band who’s already garnered awards and acclaim in his first year as an artist. We spoke to him recently about his prolific songwriting, world domination, having far too many sunglasses and getting adopted by Beyonce and Jay-Z…
Ben Harper And Relentless7, HMV Forum, London - April 19th
The Innocent Criminals are no more, but Ben Harper lives on with his new band Relentless7, formed last year and with their debut album White Lies For Dark Times inspiring this current tour. The sound is slightly rockier but still essentially underpinned with the folk-blues that Ben’s famous for, and a packed Forum was also treated to plenty of crunching guitar solos, jazzy basslines and Ben’s soulful storytelling a la Springsteen. While Harper is not quite The Boss, he’s certainly a foreman of sorts, kicking off his set with a flurry of gung-ho tracks heavy on the wah-wah-wah guitars…
