1234 Shoreditch Festival, Shoreditch Park, London - July 26th
Located slap-bang in the middle of asymmetric hairstyle land and showcasing a streak of hot new talent, Sunday’s 1234 Shoreditch Festival had all the ingredients to make it a contender for best boutique festival on London’s circuit. However, the reality failed to live up to the hype with the day-long music mash being best remembered for snaking loo queues, endless drizzle and the odd spark of musical magic…
Fruity French electrofiers Air are back with their fifth long-player Love 2 in October - but that’s far, far away innit, even if the weather tippy-tappying at your window would suggest otherwise. The follow-up to 2007’s revered Pocket Symphony, Love 2 is the first album to be recorded at Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin’s new Atlas Studios in leafy gay Paris and to celebrate, the boys are giving away album track Do The Joy, a nimble chunk of Air that’s yours to keep for nowt. Far from counting the mound of shiny gold coins that stop her from opening her front door, it seems Le Lewis has escaped Hackney out the bathroom window and flown to the LA, city of angels - and who can blame her? Sure, the Dalston Superstore is a draw but it’ll still be there when she gets back. And our Leona has been busy recording her latest album, the title of which is one of the most top secret secrets in the whole wide world (ie, we don’t know).
