Although increasingly rivaling trance as the genre most likely to be sneered at by older clubbers, funky house is proud of its disco roots. Identifiable by its slap-happy funky basslines, wah-wah guitars and Salsoul diva vocal samples, funky house is unafraid of tunes, chart hits and dressing glam for a night out. While there is often a formula at work, the more creative end of the market (Erick Morillo and Wally Lopez, to name but two) are doing their best to keep things fresh -- as well as funky.
